The DeWalt DW718R is a dual bevel sliding compound miter saw with single lever action. This miter saw also comes with a carbide blade, a dust bag and a blade wrench.

DeWalt has made the evolution of miter saws come from a basic tool to a much more complex machine that is indispensable for wood workers and wood craftsmen alike. Usually called a Chop Saw, it comes in several styles with each one made for a particular type of work. This saw is powered by a 15 amp, 3,600 rpm motor and has 90 degree cross cut capacity on a 2 x 4 board, however, the miter cut capacity is a 45 degree miter cut on a 2 x 10 board. This saw is designed to travel in both directions, which allows the operator to be able to flip the saw and not the material.

DeWalt also manufactures other miter saws as well with the blade sizes ranging between 8 ½ in up to 15 in. The smallest miter saw is only adjusted to do miter cuts, which is perfect for picture frames, door and window trims, and other small applications.

The compound miter saws allow the blade to be adjusted to cut not only miter cuts but bevel the cut at the same time. Compound miter saws usually come with either a 10” or a 12” cutting blade, which can also cut wider boards. When you are beveling the cut, the fence has to be repositioned for the bevel cuts so that the blade will not get in the way. Some of the compound miter saws may require a small adjustment in order to move both halves of the fence.

On the sliding compound miter saw you will find the motor and the blade mounted on an arm in order to cut. This will allow the saw to cut a 12” board on a 90 degree angle. On a dual compound miter saw the blade can also tilt right or left depending on the miter cut.

All of the DeWalt Miter Saws have a scale that will show the angle of the cut and the positive stops where cuts are most often made. The scales are easy to read and just as easy to adjust to a particular cutting angle.
